We are pleased to report that our “Proof of concept” prototype airplane has been completed and ready to begin flight testing. We were having difficulties in that our rotation speed was too fast for our comfort level. Engineering determined the culprit was the gap between the elevator and the horizontal stabilizer when deflected in the upward position, so gap seals were installed. This resolved the issue and we are now able to rotate at approximately 40 knots with pilot only.
In the last directors’ meeting, it was decided we would offer the Colibri LSA in kit form in addition to the fly-away-factory aircraft. The LSA will differ from the proof of concept prototype in structure, size, and weight while keeping the same general look and feel of the prototype.
We are now ready for flight testing, but need to raise a little more money to get the renewal of the airworthiness certificate, test pilot, 50 hour flight test program, and generally get us in the air (this economy has really hamstrung us- and the industry), but raising money seems to be the most difficult task in developing the airplane.
We hope to be boring holes in the sky very soon!!
